I’ve sure missed you all…

.

It’s been awhile, I am trying to catch up on all your blogs, thx for sticking around through my non-internet-access days.

Here is a quick question: having a love interest in a book, help you -as a reader- feel more attached to the character, or story?

Please share how you have been and how your WIP is going, anything I can do to help?

Thx for stopping by and lending me your support.

  1. I'm a sucker for romance. Yes. I have no exception among my own works, even, in general, the short pieces.

  2. I think love interests have their place in a story. IMHO, love changes people. A selfish character could suddenly become selfless when he/she falls for a person. Rejection from a love interest could cause a character to go all stalky and psycho. There are so many ways that love interests can enhance a character that I can't imagine not taking advantage of using it as a tool.

  3. I think Andrea's answer was so good I want to add to it: I think how one loves someone else is the truest insight into one's true character.

Most of the time, people project what they want people to see (with varying amounts of success). Love of another goes beyond that, with selfish love being as revealing for an outwardly honest/nice person as true selflessness by someone who seemed otherwise misanthropic. People often find depths in themselves with love they'd never find another way. Sometimes, those depths ain't pretty.

  4. I think you have some good answers here, Jeff. I don't write romance, so I'm not much help. I like to read ya with some romance, but it's not usually the primary focus of the book.

  5. I have to agree with what everyone has said so far.
I think that adding a love intrest, whether it be a prominent relationship or not, it really adds depth to the character and who they are.
Like what Stephanie was saying, love can make you do crazy things... good, bad and ugly...
Which brings good story lines and depth :)

    Hope that helps!

  6. My wip is coming along nicely, and I hope your revisions are going well too. I love romance stories, but I don't have to have it in a book I read. I'm really a sucker for stories with complicated family dynamics.
