What up?

.
.

How have you all been—good I hope.

How is your WIP going?

When you write, do you plan out chapter length ahead of time; or do you go back after the first draft, and make-up chapters then?

Have you read any good books lately?

Thx for stopping by, you make my day much brighter.

  1. I tend to shoot for 3K words give or take 500. But they vary more than that.

I don't think chapter breaks are terribly so important, so I don't lose much sleep over it one way or the other.

Most of the books I've read recently are manga.

  2. I usually try to get about 2500 words per chapter. I don't always get that in the first draft but tend to make it up during the revision process.

The last really great book I read was Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver - really good.

  3. Hey Jeff! My revisions are s.l.o.w. Every time I read my ms, I feel like it'll never be good enough. Sigh. But it'll get there, with time. As for chapters, when I write my first draft, I shoot for about 1,000 words each. Then in revision, I move it all around and everything changes.

    Good luck with your revisions!

  4. Hey Jeff:

I figure out chapter length as I go along. Somehow, it becomes clear to me as I do it, but ahead of time... nah!

As fo if I have read any good books lately: You simply MUST check out "Empire of Illusion" by Chris Hedges. A bit of a polemic, but fascinating topics explored.

How is your writing coming along?

    Cheers, Jill

  7. HI Jeff. My brother had bought me a book called "A writer's Notebook: Unlocking the writer within you" by Ralph Fletcher. Very interesting read and I learned a couple of things. I'm surprised it's for ages "8-12" because it sounds for any age.

    How are you? :)

  8. I have read a few good books lately the latest in the Kate Daniels series and On the Edge both by Illona Andrews.

I am in the beginning stages of fiction writing. My lofty goal would be to write a novel before I die. My realistic goal is to get my ideas on paper(computer screen to be more precise) and write a few solid short stories.

While I am just writing ideas like a mad woman I plan to brush up on my grammar. Just like the Japanese I learned in college I have lost a lot of the basic English skills I had when I wrote papers at least once a week.

So how is it all going for you?

  9. Hi, Jeff! So many questions :) Let me see...I don't pay attention to chapter length. I just write until the scene ends, then start a new one. I just finished reading Beautiful Creatures and am looking forward to the sequel. My WIP has been slow but is finally picking up speed now that I've addressed some serious plot holes. And like Stina, it still feels like it will NEVER be done.

    *sigh*
