It’s been awhile

.
..

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted anything, the main reason is I have been spinning my wheels. The worst part about revising your work is the feeling of work sets in hard and heavy. It’s like reading the same book, or watching the same movie over and over, or it’s like going to work doing the same thing every day and not getting the joy of creating something new and fresh.

I really appreciate all your support; it has helped me more than I can say.

I am making progress; it’s just slow and tedious.

The only way to learn is by doing, hopefully it will show in my final draft… which seems a life time away.

It’s sad when you would rather mow the lawn than write.

I need to find a way to make revision fun. During the first draft I could pump out 10 to 15 pages easily, now it might take a whole night to do one page of revision.

Don’t want to sound like a wimp, it just helps to get it out.

I know you all know what I am talking about.

Thx for any comment you might leave, your advice lifts me up.

  1. Revising is not my favorite either, but it usually goes much faster than my writing. Rarely does it take me much longer than it takes to read it aloud.

But I do have to do it over and over and over again.

When I need a rewrite, however, that can take forever. Good luck.

  2. Editing is really hard. The best advice I can give you is to do it in short spurts with enough rewards and breaks in between.

Good luck! I know you can do it.

  3. Editing is tough. It's hard to see the flaws in our work and maybe you should consider getting a reader to help point out problem areas. I know it's helped me in the past. Remember to take breaks and try not to stress too much. You'll get there.

Also, Mowing the lawn isn't so bad. Not when your characters talk to you as you listen to music! (I mow my grandparents lawn for them every two weeks).

  4. I hate mowing my lawn with a passion... a deep passion full of dark thoughts.

  5. I've read in a writer's magazine that it's a good idea to put your manuscript aside for a while (days, weeks, months, you decide) so when you come back and revise it, you will have better judgment to correct it, if it needs any. Besides, writers need breaks too. :)

Good luck and keep going! Don't give up on your dream to have your work published! :) GO FOR IT! :D

Thanks Jeff for posting a comment on my blog. So glad you had fun. :)

  6. Jeff--Put your ms to the side for a while and work on something else. Let it perculate in your mind, then go back and revise it. Read some books in the same genre while it's resting off to the side. Watch movies in your genre during your "break" too...

  7. It's hard to stay motivated while revising, but the way to look at it is that publication is the goal, and no one will get us there but ourselves. Look at all the writers suceeding each day and be determined that this is your time, your moment. Then get to work and make it happen. :)

    Good luck--I'm revising, too. :)
